The Beemster

The Beemster is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, the Beemster was still a big lake. Until a group of rich Amsterdammers decided to drain the lake with 43 mills. Since then, the Beemster has become the green heart of North Holland. Every spring the tulips flower and freshly harvested apples are sold along the way.
